The lockdown imposed by governments of various countries to reduce the spread of the coronavirus has had a very positive impact on the environment. Pollution levels have drastically reduced across the world, the wildlife is thriving like never before, and air quality has massively improved in many countries.

Earlier, we have written about how the Himalayan range was visible from Punjab in India, which is over 100 miles away.

In another such incident, residents of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal woke up to a stunning sight. After decades, they noticed that the Mount Everest – the tallest peak in the world at 8848 metres – is visible from Kathmandu Valley, which is nearly 200 kilometres away!

A local newspaper called Nepali Times shared the breathtaking images of the Mount Everest on its Twitter handle with the following message, “The COVID-19 Lockdown has cleaned the air over Nepal and northern India. So much so that for the first time in many years, Mt Everest can be seen again from Kathmandu Valley even though it is 200km away.”

Understandably, the pictures have gone viral and netizens are awestruck! Photographer Abhushan Gautam captured these images for the Nepali Times from the Chobar village in Kathmandu Valley.

Have a look at the images for yourself!
