Microsoft has consistently been ranked as one of the best places to work in the world. Here, some of the best brains from over the world enjoy working on cutting-edge technology. But apart from the stimulating work, the office ambience and perks that Microsoft provides to its employees is conducive in helping the employees bring out the best in themselves.

And Microsoft has now added another feather in its cap by opening a brand new office in Noida, a town in India’s capital New Delhi. This is the third India Development Centre of the Redmond-based company, after Hyderabad and Bangalore. The office is spread across 90,000 square feet in the top three floors of a six-story building. But what is remarkable about this office is that it has been inspired by one of the most beautiful architectural marvels of the world – the Taj Mahal!

A collaboration between Bengaluru-based RSP Design Consultants and the Real Estate and Facility (RE&F) at Microsoft India, the office is a modern-day workplace like no other. It is a beautiful confluence of the antique Mughal architecture and state-of-the-art, contemporary facilities.

The symmetrical and decorative aspects of the Mughal architecture have been incorporated into the office, as have the minarets, domed ceilings, arched entrances, and the distinctive jaali work, which is a Mughal architectural style of perforated stone or latticed screen. Like the Taj Mahal, this office is dominated with ivory hues.

Interestingly, all the marbles and fabrics used in the construction of the office have been sourced from regions in the vicinity of the office to engage and encourage the local economy.

The office has also been constructed bearing in mind the sustainability aspect – it includes recycled products, and energy-saving light and water installations. Moreover, 2 per cent of the office is covered in greenery. The office has also been designed in an inclusive manner, with customized counters for wheelchairs, Braille signage, hazard warnings and access ramps.

The new facility will accommodate the Xbox team of Microsoft and is the first campus in India to host a gaming team.

“I think working at an office is going to be a more beautiful experience than in the past because employees will have a choice,” says Rajiv Kumar, managing director, Microsoft India Development Centre, and a Microsoft veteran of nearly 29 years. “They can work from the comfort of home, or they can come to office and work in a world-class environment where they can collaborate, build social capital and forge a bond among themselves. I really believe that.”

Coming back to work for employees at Microsoft is certainly going to be a huge blessing. Don’t you agree?
