India’s elephant welfare activists have much to trumpet about the country’s first elephant hospital. This 12,000 square feet facility in Uttar Pradesh state’s Mathura is sophisticated and mobile, its promoters say. It has all modern facilities like wireless digital X-Ray, thermal imaging, ultrasonography, tranquilization devices and quarantine facilities. The staff can rush to any place where a pachyderm is sick or injured. Animal charity ‘Wildlife SOS’ primarily promoted the hospital to take care of the animals it rescues from circuses and timber mills, but it rushes in to help sick or injured animals, near or far.
