The youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, human rights and child activist, and advocate for girls’ education, Malala Yousafzai is now a graduate from Britain’s renowned Oxford College!

Yousafzai attended Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall college and graduated in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics recently.

Delighted with her achievement, the 22-year-old put up a post on Twitter, sharing two photographs celebrating her brilliant achievement.

In the first, Malala is covered in confetti and cake while in the second, she is celebrating with her family with another cake.

In the post, she wrote, “Hard to express my joy and gratitude right now as I completed my Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree at Oxford. I don’t know what’s ahead. For now, it will be Netflix, reading and sleep.”

Who is Malala Yousafzai?

Born on 12th July 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan, Malala had a keen interest in education since she was a young girl. Unfortunately, the extremist group Taliban took control of her town in the Swat Valley in 2008 and prohibited girls from going to school. Malala also wrote a blog under a pseudonym for BBC Urdu, chronicling her life during the Taliban rule. A staunch advocate of girls’ right to education, Malala spoke out in support of girls education in 2012, making her a target of the Taliban.

In October 2012, when she was on her way back home from school, a masked gunman attempted to assassinate her, shooting her on the left side of her head and causing her near-fatal injuries.

She received initial treatment at the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology but was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK as soon as her condition got a little better. This incident sparked an outpouring of support for the teenager, with organizations and nations across the world condemning the Taliban for this brutal attempt at a teenager’s life.

After months of medical surgeries and rehabilitation, Malala and her family moved to the UK due to continuous threats on her life.

She then established Malala Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to girls’ education and rights. In 2014, she was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the mere age of 17, making her the youngest recipient of the award. She has also been the recipient of numerous other prestigious honours such as the Sakharov Prize, the International Children’s Peace Prize, and the Simone de Beauvoir Prize, among many others.
