Does working remotely from Hawaii in this pandemic interest you? If yes, this news is just what you’d like to hear!

The state of Hawaii has recently launched Movers and Shakas, a new and innovative remote working program for individuals that would want to remotely work from the islands. These individuals could be either former residents of Hawaii or people from out of the state who would be interested in living in Hawaii temporarily.

By means of this program, Hawaii aims to “recruit and nurture talented professionals to help build a resilient economy” by incorporating a unique ‘give and get’ approach. The participants get a free round-trip to the island, exclusive discounts on month-to-month accommodations, flights, restaurants, attractions and other services they need while living in the exotic islands.

In return for these facilities, they are required to contribute a few hours of their time and skills to non-profits and Hawaii’s local communities each week.

So, the program is looking forward to accepting applicants “with the right mindset, who are passionate about the values of Hawaii” and are willing to commit to respect and protect the life, lands and waters of Hawaii and contribute generously to the local community.

The first group of applicants will be accepted until 15th December this year. A total of fifty individuals will be chosen by the program for its first cohort and the later ones will be chosen on a rolling basis.

“Movers and Shakas is a small step towards economic recovery and diversifying our economy,” Jason Higa, the group’s founder, told CNN.

“The pandemic,” he said, “has normalized remote work for the foreseeable future, so we believe this situation presents an opportunity for local residents to return home, and for out of state professionals to experience Hawaii, not as tourists, but as contributing members of our community.”

Isn’t this a wonderful opportunity to have fun and give back to the community? Would you want to apply to this temporary resident program? We certainly would!
