Google celebrated Leap Day 2020 with an animated and fun doodle. The doodle is jumping with joy and showing a transtion from 28th of February to the 1st of March.

A Leap Day is observed once in four years on the 29th of February. As the Google page explains, this day keeps “our calendars in alignment with the Earth and sun.”

Why is a Leap Day added to the calendar?

So, the revolution of the Earth around the Sun takes roughly six hours longer than 365 complete days. Hence, for every four years, an entire extra day (4 * 6 hours) is needed to compensate for this lag. This is why a leap day is added to the calendar once in four days to align the calendar with the position of the Earth in the Solar System.

Interestingly, a leap day is added to only those years that are divisible by 4.

A very Happy Leap Day to you all! Party four times harder than you generally do!
