Today is World Happiness Day! It is observed by the United Nations to promote happiness as a fundamental right for all human beings across the world, irrespective of gender, religion, ethnicity, or race.

And while we understand that these are grim times for the entire world, today is also an opportunity to find the little ray of hope and happiness to latch onto and spread the warm light across.

For exactly this reason, the UNIDOHappiness, the official home and secretariat of the United Nations International Day of Happiness, has launched the ‘Happiness For All, Together‘ campaign. This campaign lays out 10 simple but important steps that all individuals, organizations, and nations can follow to celebrate this day and join the fight to combat the fight against COVID-19 by spreading happiness, warmth, and solidarity.

#HappinessForAllTogether is our global call to action for all 7.8 billion & all 206 nations to rise up & defeat #COVID19 global pandemic #TenStepsToGlobalHappiness #InternationalDayofHappiness @antonioguterres @AminaJMohammed @NdabaMandela @lgallardo https://t.co/rPcGCmg0YM🙌✊🙏 pic.twitter.com/4wbmpVzRp6

  5. Be kind and share
  6. Stay active and mindful
  7. Stay optimistic, positive, and resilient
  8. Stay informed about facts and news; avoid myths
  9. Enjoy nature and the environment by getting outside
  10. Happytalism: Think about systemic change we can make so this never happens again

What is World Happiness Day?

The World Happiness Day was created in 2012 when all the UN member nations “proclaimed 20 March the International Day of Happiness, recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.”

The resolution to declare a day for happiness was initiated by Bhutan, a nation long known for its focus on happiness among its civilians. The nation has been famous for adopting the Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product to measure its growth.

A very happy World Happiness Day to all of you. Be happy, and spread happiness!
