TIME releases 100 Most Influential People of 2020 list

Time magazine released the list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020 in the world and quite a few leaders, artists, and sportspersons made it to the list.

Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel; President of the United States, Donald Trump; Chinese Premiere, Xi Jinping; the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; and the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsanaro were a few of the many world leaders on the list.

With the US Presidential election just a few months away, Democratic presidential candidate and the former Vice-President Joe Biden featured on the list along with his running mate Kamala Harris. Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and controversial Attorney General of the United States William Barr also made the cut.

Artists such as American singing sensation Selena Gomez, cellist Yo-yo Ma, and Oscar-winning South Korean director Bong Joon-ho all made it to the list.

The CEO of Alphabet Inc. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alibaba Daniel Zhang, and the CEO and founder of Zoom Video Communications Eric Yuan were some of the prominent business leaders that featured on the list.

The founders of the Black Lives Matter Movement, which took the world by a storm this year, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi were on the list too.

A vocal advocate of the Black Lives Matter Movement and six-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, current US Open tennis champion Naomi Osaka, captain of the US women’s soccer team Megan Rapinoe, and American sprinter Allyson Felix were among the sportspersons that made it to the list.

Also, with the coronavirus pandemic engulfing the world, one of the leading infectious disease expert in the world – Doctor Anthony Fauci found a place on the list, as did the current Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Time CEO and editor in chief Edward Felsenthal said in a statement, “While you will certainly find people who wield traditional power on this year’s list—heads of state, CEOs, major entertainers—it also includes many extraordinary, lesser-known individuals who seized the moment to save lives, build a movement, lift the spirit, repair the world.”
