Nature is mysterious and is beautiful! And is eons older than us humans who have now taken it for granted?
The severed head of a wolf estimated to have died 40,000 years ago has been unearthed on the banks of the Tirekhtyakh River in Yakutia in eastern Siberia. Remarkably, the fur, teeth, and facial tissues are all intact due to the freezing conditions.
This wonder was found by a local resident, Pavel Yefimov, and was subsequently handed over to the Science Academy of Yakutia. Researchers of the Academy, in collaboration with experts from Japan and Sweden, determined its age be over 40,000 years old.
The Director of the Academy, Albert Protopopov said that frozen wolf cubs had been unearthed in the past. However, the discovery of an adult wolf is certainly one of its kind.
“This is the first time the head of an ancient wolf has been found whose soft tissue has been preserved after 40,000 years, a grown wolf,” he said.
The pictures and footage of the head show a wolf that seems much bigger than the wolves of today. While the fur and teeth are clearly visible, its eyes are missing.
Unfortunately, the reason for this being unearthed is global warming. As the planet is getting warmer, the number of such discoveries are increasing due to the thaw of the permafrost.
Isn’t it beautiful that an animal this old has been preserved perfectly by nature? What do you think of this discovery? Do let us know your views in the comments below.0
