Naomi Osaka is the undisputed tennis star now! She beat Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitová to win Australian Open 2019 Women’s singles trophy. The 21-year-old Japanese fought brilliantly to secure this dramatic win. In her second major title win in a row, following last year’s US Open, she won her maiden Australian Open title by defeating Petra Kvitová 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4.

Naomi won the first set 7-6 but the ever-brave Kvitová won the second set 7-5. However, Osaka made the trophy hers by winning the last set 6-4.
In the presentation ceremony, she remained speechless and did not smile until she got her hands on the trophy. Osaka revealed to the media that she was in a state of shock through the whole presentation.
With this victory, Osaka becomes world’s No.1 for the first time. She is also the first Japanese player, man or woman, to win a major championship. Further, she becomes the first Asian to hold the number one spot.
