The Duke of Edinburg, Prince Philip passed away on 9th April at the age of 99. Just a few months away from his 100th birthday in June, he was also the longest-serving consort in the history of Britain.
Born in the Greek island of Corfu on 10 June 1921, Prince Philip was the only son of Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg. He was known to have an itinerant childhood, moving across countries such as France, England, and Scotland.
One of the busiest and most active members of the Royal Family, Prince Philip was also very passionate about sports, wildlife, nature, and conservation. He was one of the best polo players of his time in Britain, apart from being a qualified pilot and an accomplished sailor.
A statement from Buckingham Palace on said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
