Former United States President, George H.W Bush secretly sponsored a seven-year-old boy – Timothy – from the Philippines for a decade. This was done through, Compassion International, a Colorado-Springs based non-profit organization. The 41st President of the U.S used a pseudonym – George Walker – to donate funds towards the boy’s education and extracurricular activities.
The President was first introduced to the idea of sponsoring a child in 2001. He soon initiated the process of sponsorship, consistently writing letters to Timothy and sending him presents. The President also sent him a picture of his dog Sadie, violating a few security measures in the process.
Timothy learned of his sponsor only after he had graduated from the program and was astonished that a former President was his benefactor.
This news adds to the greatness of one of the most loved Presidents of the United States whose magnanimity and legacy will always be etched in the memory of his admirers and continue to inspire millions across the globe.
