In the wake of a government shutdown in the United States, Kraft Foods is providing free grocery for unpaid government workers in its pop-up store. Opened on January 16 in Washington, DC, the store will give away free food to government workers until January 20. To collect food from the store, government workers will have to provide valid government identification.
The food corporation volunteered to dispense of the brand’s popular macaroni and cheese, American cheese singles, salad dressings and mayonnaise. Kraft, however, urged the unpaid workers to compensate the prices in future and donate the remaining for charity once they start receiving paychecks.

According to Sergio Eleuterio, Head of Marketing for Kraft, “During the government shutdown, parents should not have to worry about putting dinner on the table because they aren’t receiving a paycheck.”
The store is located in 1287 4th Street, NE, two blocks from Union Market.
