How often we take public servants for granted! We undermine the role that paramedics, the armed forces, and the police play in the smooth running of the community and society.

Recently, we had written about how a policeman in the south Indian state of Telangana went beyond the call of his duty, running for two kilometres to clear peak-hour traffic so that an ambulance could reach the hospital on time.

Here is another example of a similar heartwarming incident involving the police.

Recently, the Italian police recently drove the luxury car Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 for a distance of about 500 kilometres to ensure that a kidney was available in time to a patient waiting for an emergency transplant.

Driving at speeds reaching about 230 kmph, the police drove from the northern town of Padova to the Gemelli hospital in Rome down south in just about two hours. This feat is remarkable considering that the journey would have otherwise taken anywhere between five and six hours!

According to local police, the primary function of the Lamborghini is to move emergency transplant organs, plasma and vaccines across the country. The car is well equipped to carry out such tasks: it has an onboard tablet, cameras, and a storage box to transport organs safely to their destinations.

As per the reports from the media, the local authorities were not able to find a way to transport the kidney for the emergency kidney transplant surgery. This is when the police stepped in to help with the Lamborghini, which can reach a maximum speed of 325 kmph.
