Teenager Nilanshi Patel, from Modasa, a city in the West Indian state of Gujarat in India has held the Guinness World Records title for the longest hair for a teenager.

When her hair was measured before her 18th birthday, it was an astounding 200cm (6ft 6.7 inches) in length.

And why did she want to not cut her hair?

Nilanshi had a poor experience with a hairdresser when she was six and decided to never cut her hair again. She stuck to her decision for 12 years, resulting in her hair growing to great lengths.

However, recently, Nilanshi decided to cut her most precious assets.

“My hair gave me a lot – because of my hair I am known as the ‘real life Rapunzel’… now it’s time to give it something back,” Nilanshi said.

After discussions with her mother about what to do with the hair, she decided to display it in a museum.

Once she made her decision, a date was set for Nilanshi to part with her beautiful locks. Clearly, Nilanshi was inundated with emotions on the D-day.

“I’m so excited and a little bit nervous because I don’t know how I’m looking in the new hairstyle… so let’s see what happens, but I hope it’s going to be amazing,” Nilanshi said just before her life-changing haircut.

However, she was ecstatic about her new look.

“Oh my god it’s beautiful! It’s amazing – I’m like a little princess!”

And would you believe that her cut hair weighed a total of 266 grams (9.4 oz).

As decided, Nilanshi donated her hair to Ripley’s, where it will be displayed at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! museum in Hollywood. Subsequently, it will be displayed at the Guinness World Records Museum, also in Hollywood.
