The United States of America won the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 by convincingly defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final played in Lyon, France. This was America’s fourth overall World Cup win and the second consecutive World Cup. The USA has earlier won the World Cup in 1991, 1999, and 2015.

Also, this was the third consecutive final for the USA whereas the Netherlands was playing its first final in the World Cup.

The goals for the USA came in the second half when the players came out all guns blazing. Megan Rapinoe converted her penalty in the 61st minute of the match, enabling the USA to score its first goal. In the 69th minute, Rose Lavelle scored a second goal that helped the USA seal the match.

By winning this match, the USA won its 12th consecutive match, the longest successful run in World Cup history for both men and women.

For her brilliant goal, veteran Megan Rapinoe was presented with the Player of the Match Award. With goals and three assists, she also won the Golden Boot awarded to the tournament’s top scorer. She was also awarded the Golden Ball Award for the best player in the tournament.

Jill Ellis, the coach of Team USA, won her second Cup, becoming the first women’s coach ever to win two of the coveted World Cup titles.

But the records that Team USA created does not end there. With 26 goals in the tournament, USA also set the record for scoring the most number of goals in a Women’s World Cup tournament.
