How much money would an iron staircase fetch? Apparently 169,000 euro! That’s how much money an unidentified collector from the Middle East paid to own a chunk of the staircase from the Eiffel Tower. The piece of history, which was sold by the auction house Artcurial in Paris, came from the original staircase that was installed at the Eiffel Tower in 1889.
Artcurial had estimated the piece to fetch anywhere from 40,000 to 60,000 euros, and the bid at 169,000 euro took even the auction house by surprise. The segment consisting of 25 steps, measured 4.3 metres in height and was used to connect the second and third floors of the iconic monument. It was removed when a lift was installed in the Eiffel Tower.
