Renee Perry had lost her beloved pet dog Bay five years ago.

Bay had gone missing from its dog sitter’s home in Farmington, Massachusetts in June 2016, when it was just a year-and-a-half. They were numerous search efforts but none were able to bring back Bay.

However, Renee never gave up hope and wished that Bay would be found.

Her prayers were answered when she got a call recently to say that Bay had been found in Needham, about 10 miles from where it went missing.

“I didn’t believe it at first. I saw the pictures, and it did look like her but her nose was darker; she just looked heavier; she just looked different,” said Perry.

A couple found the dog wandering outside their home and reached out to Missing Dogs Massachusetts (MDM), a nonprofit organization that works to reunite missing dogs with their families. MDM then set up a kennel trap in the couple’s yard and Bay fell for it.

Within a couple of hours, the volunteers at MDM scanned Bay’s chip and were able to pull out details about its owner. Danielle Matthew, a volunteer at the Missing Dogs Massachusetts, told the TV station that she was amazed that Bay survived five New England winters and called her ‘a resilient little dog’.

“To the family that let them set up a cage in their yard, I’m forever thankful for them,” said Perry about the couple who agreed to have a cage.

‘To get her back, I think it’s an understatement to say it’s a miracle because it’s just crazy’, Renee said, clearly overwhelmed. ‘It’s surreal’.
