Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has postponed her wedding to her fiance Bo Tengberg to attend a European Council meeting to discuss recovery efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and a new budget for the European Union.

The meeting is to be held on Saturday, 17th July in Brussels, Belgium, which was the day when her wedding was scheduled. This meeting will be the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic that the leaders of the European Union will meet in person. Its schedule was decided only a few days back in an online meeting.

A member of Denmark’s center-left Social Democratic party, Frederiksen, 41, is the youngest-ever Prime Minister of Denmark.

She put up a post on her Instagram handle to share the news with her followers.

According to a translation from CNN, she wrote, “I’m so looking forward to marrying this man. The Council meeting in Brussels has been convened exactly on the Saturday in July when we had planned our wedding. Damn. But, I have to do my job and protect Denmark’s interests.”

“Soon we should be able to get married. I’m looking forward to saying yes to Bo (who fortunately is very patient).”

While it is unclear when the leader plans to tie the knot in future, we really appreciate her commitment towards her nation.
