Couple Recreates Wedding Photos to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Carolyn and Kelly Gay, a couple from Cumming, Iowa, decided to recreate their wedding photos after 50 years of their marriage.

And why and how did Carolyn, 70, think about this amazing plan?

“At one point in time, I thought, ‘Oh it’s just 50 years. Let’s just go out and eat dinner and call it a day,'” Carolyn explained to ABC affiliate WQAD. “Then I thought, ‘Really, for the number of people that got married the last 50 years, there aren’t that many people that are still with the same original person.”

What made this even more amazing is the fact that they held their photoshoot at the same church where they got married, with Carolyn wearing the same gown!

“I was pretty sure I was within five pounds of my weight as to what I weighed back when I was married, so I thought, ‘I think I can get in that dress!'” Carolyn said about being able to fit into her original wedding dress.

Would you believe that Carolyn had also begun to grow her hair since three years to ensure that it would be the same length as it was 50 years ago.

Interestingly, the church, DSM First Church in Des Moines, even had the same altar, cross, paint colours, and candelabras as it did 50 years ago, making the photoshoot more endearing.

Carolyn and Kelly, who have three children and four grandchildren, exchanged their vows on March 12, 1971.

They spent about an hour to an hour-and-a-half getting clicked and Carolyn admitted that the pictures were “so much fun to create.” Sam Hoyle from Two Hoyles Photography was the photographer for the shoot.
