On Easter Sunday, the majestic Christ Redeemer statue in Brazil was lit up to honour healthcare workers across the world fighting in the front line of the battle against the coronavirus.

In a moving tribute to the entire healthcare fraternity, images of healthcare and medical workers wearing masks were projected on the statue. In the end, the statue was illuminated to look like a doctor, wearing the conventional white apron and a stethoscope.

The flags of various nations including the United States, China, Spain, Italy and Brazil that have been affected by this deadly virus were also projected onto the statue.

Words such as ‘Thanks’ and ‘Hope’, written in several languages were also displayed on the statue while the slogan “Fique Em Casa” — meaning “Stay at Home” — was projected onto the arm of the statue.

The archbishop of Rio, Dom Orani Tempesta, held the Easter mass at the foot of the statue during the light show without the presence of public.

Earlier, on 18th March, the statue was illuminated with images of continents and the flags of the nations that have been fighting against this global pandemic.

Located in the Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Christ Redeemer statue is 38-metres tall, including its pedestal.
