The founder of the e-commerce behemoth Amazon, Jeff Bezos has announced that he is committing $10 billion to the ‘Bezos Earth Fund’ to fight against climate change.

The world’s richest man put up a post on Instagram to share the news with his followers, saying that “this global initiative will fund scientists, activists, NGOs — any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world.” And the project will begin disbursing the funds as early as summer this year.

According to reports, this is one of the biggest charitable pledges ever, only next to Warren Buffett’s pledge of $36 billion in 2006 and Helen Walton’s donation of $16.4 billion in 2007.

The organization has taken some efforts towards combating climate change: it has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2040 and has also promised to deploy around 100,000 electric delivery vans by 2024.

We hope more philanthropists come forward to donate towards this cause, and do so soon!

Bezos ended his post with a very profound idea, “Earth is the one thing we all have in common — let’s protect it, together.⁣⁣⁣”

Yes, let us do all we can to protect the Earth!
