In response to the anti-racism movement that is taking the world by storm, Band-Aid, the famous adhesive bandages distributed by the American pharmaceutical and medical-devices company Johnson & Johnson, announced that it will create a range of new bandages to include a varied array of skin tones.

In a post shared on Instagram, it said, “We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, collaborators and community in the fight against racism, violence and injustice. We are committed to taking actions to create tangible change for the Black community.⁣”

It will launch bandages in light, medium, and deep shades of brown and black skin tones to promote inclusivity.

“We are committed to launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin. We are dedicated to inclusivity and providing the best healing solutions, better representing you,” the post said.

The company also confirmed that it would donate to the Black Lives Matter movement to combat systemic racism.

However, it is important to note that this is not the first time that multiracial bandages have been launched by Band-Aid. Over a decade back in 2005, Band-Aid had launched the Perfect Blend brand, a range of bandages designed to match a variety of multiracial skin tones. Eventually, the line was discontinued due to a lack of demand in the product.

While the change was long due, we believe that this is still a welcome change.
