Apple has faced a major backlash for turning its iPhones into spying devices. The FaceTime feature in Apple iPhones was infected with a bug, which has been spotted by a teen in Tucson, Arizona. The 14-year-old, Grant Thompson will receive a payment from Apple for finding the FaceTime bug. Apple will also contribute money towards his education. It has also credited the undergraduate of Catalina Foothills High School along with Daven Morris of Texas in Apple’s security update announcement.

Here’s How Grant found the Glitch:

When Grant Thompson was preparing to play the popular video game “Fortnite” with friends in January, he noticed the glitch.

While Thompson and his friends were attempting to start a group chat before the game, Thompson noticed that even though the FaceTime call was still ringing and his friend was yet to answer it, the phone kept transmitting audio to his friend’s phone. The friend on the other side was shocked to hear Thompson’s voice ask ‘what’s up?’ even though he hadn’t accepted the call.

Grant and his sister repeated this test in front of their mother and they became assured of the glitch. Their mother Michele Thompson, an attorney, tried to contact Apple to inform them about the safety concern without success.

Refusing to give up hope, Michele did whatever she could to make a buzz. She called Apple customer care support, tagged Apple in Facebook posts, sent tweets, registered as a developer to submit a warning through Apple’s bug reporting website, and finally faxed a letter on her law firm’s letterhead to Apple general counsel.

Apple finally responded when the industry news site 9toMac reported the glitch. The company said that it temporarily disabled the group-chat function on FaceTime and would install a software update to fix the safety issue.

How you Can Fix the Problem in your Device:

According to the experts, Apple customers must install the 12.1.4 security update on their iPhone, iPad or iMac soon. To do this, you will have to go to Settings>General>Software Update. Then choose Download and Install. When the process continues, your phone must have at least 50 per cent of charge or be plugged in.
