The famous rapper, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Akon is creating his own city in Senegal, and he is naming it after himself. The city is to be called ‘Akon City.’

He recently tweeted the confirmation on this new city on Twitter, with the tweet saying that he was “looking forward to hosting you there in the future.”

According to his website, Akon spent his early childhood in Senegal before moving in Union City, New Jersey in the United States of America.

He originally announced his plans for this ambitious and futuristic city in 2018, saying that he would want to build a ‘crypto city’ that would trade exclusively on his digital cash currency called AKoin, which is available across 54 nations in the African continent. The city would be built on a 2,000-acre land that he was awarded by th President of Senegal, Macky Sall and would use renewable energy.

According to the website, this new city would be a mere five-minute drive from Senegal’s new international airport.

Akon has lately been in the news more for his entrepreneurial ventures than his music. Akon Lighting Africa is one such venture that provides solar power to African nations.
