Queen Elizabeth is known for her fine tastes and many passions, right from horses to gins. And the monarch has taken her passion one step ahead by releasing a gin made from ingredients grown in her own estate!
The Queen recently launched a gin made with plants grown in her Sandringham estate in north Norfolk, where she generally spends her winters and Christmas.
According to the website of Sandringham estate, the gin includes “Sharon fruit, a woody tree related to ebony, also known as the Chinese Persimmon and foliage from myrtle plants.”
“The Sharon Fruit is grown in the Walled Garden on a sheltered wall at the end of what was a range of glass houses, built on the winnings of the famous racehorse, Persimmon, owned by King Edward VII,” the shop says. “The foliage from myrtle plants also grown on the Estate, originated from a cutting taken from Princess Alexandra’s wedding bouquet on her marriage to Prince Albert Edward, who later became King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.”
Priced at £50 for a 50cl bottle, the Sandringham Celebration Gin is also available in 5cl bottles. However, this gin is available only in the United Kingdom.
Also, as the gin is distilled in small batches, it can take up to two weeks for the orders to be processed.
This is the not the first brand of the spirit to be marketed by the Royal family, however.
Earlier in the year, the Buckingham Palace released a gin made with ingredients such as hawthorn berries, lemon verbena, mulberry leaves, and bay leaves sourced from the palace gardens. The gin was priced at £40 for a 70cl bottle.
