Making The Big Move: Moving out of home for the first time

Tips on enjoying a new place

Moving out of your homes for the first time can be a dreadful experience for many of us. It’s much more than just survival: it’s about being independent and making the most of our single selves. Here are a few tips and tricks for all the new ladies and lads in town to get going:

Acceptance is the Key

The first step towards conquering any of our fears, inhibitions, resistance is to accept. Accept the change and then start working towards dealing with it.

Take Your Time

It will take time for you to make your new house a home. After all, it is for the first time that the kid has left the nest. Take time to get a hang of the place, set your new apartment, understand the systems and the way of life of people. The settling in phase will differ for different people but one day we shall overcome our resistance.

A Busy Mind is a Healthy Mind

Coming to a new city with unknown faces, unknown places can be daunting. But, as they say, an empty mind is a devil’s workshop. To ward off the devil, you got to keep yourself busy. Just attending your office or college won’t suffice; do things that make you happy. Join a hobby club, for instance. It will serve twin purposes: one, you will learn something new. Two, you will befriend people with similar interests.

You could also keep busy by spending time curating your house as per your liking.

Keep in Touch

You have moved away but your people back home are still as special. Give them time and keep connected to your roots. Make sure you connect to your family and friends regularly. Isn’t it widely said that distance makes the heart grow fonder? Don’t get so engrossed in your new life that you forget your old pals.

Explore

A new place means new opportunities! Explore the place, cover all the amazing restaurants and hangout places, visit the museums, galleries, go local with the authentic cuisines, attires and get started on mastering the local lingo.

Hey, new girl/boy in the city, I understand it’s tough but you are tougher. The experience will define your personality. Hey caterpillar, you will come out shining and shimmering as you transform into a beautiful butterfly. All the best!
