American actor Robert Downey Jr., renowned for his role as the Iron Man, unveiled some Iron Man-ish plans to combat climate change and global warming.

At Amazon’s re: MARS conference held in Las Vegas early in June, Downey announced the launch of Footprint Coalition – an organization that will use artificial intelligence and robotics to fight the detrimental effects of climate change. It aims to clean up the planet and reverse the carbon footprint using technology in a decade. Right now, the website of the organization is in a rudimentary state. It shows a page that thanks visitors for showing interest in the organization and asks them to sign up for a newsletter to know more about the future course of actions.

Downey said that he got this idea while having a meal with a group of experts and added that he plans to roll out the project officially by April 2020.

“Between robotics and nanotechnology we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade,” he said.

However, Downey did not divulge too many other details about this ambitious project. For instance, he did not reveal any investors, advisors, or partners. He also did not give out what technology the organization would use or how it would achieve its goals.

It is not surprising that the Iron Man is looking to fight against climate change and save the world from more destruction in the only way he knows – using AI and robots.
