Very often, we undermine the role that essential workers play in our lives. Only a pandemic brought us to realize how much doctors, nurses, policemen, and government servants do for the community.

In an incident that won widespread praise across netizens, a policeman in the city of Hyderabad in the south Indian state of Telangana ran for almost 2 kilometres to clear traffic for an ambulance.

G. Babji, a traffic constable, was on duty in the busy area of Koti in Hyderabad when he noticed an ambulance that was struggling to move due to the peak hour traffic.

Going beyond the call of duty, he ran ahead of the ambulance for around 2 kilometres, asking people to move away and clearing the traffic en route so that the patient in the ambulance could reach the hospital in time. Remarkably, he ran through the area beyond his jurisdiction.

And he was oblivious to the fact that someone inside the ambulance captured this on camera and uploaded it on social media. The video was widely shared by netizens who lauded the constable for his act.

Even the motorists on the road stood by to applaud Babji for his effort.

β€œI am happy that I could clear the way for the ambulance to pass. I don’t know who was the patient and which hospital he was being taken to,” said Babji to IANS.

Babji was duly recognized and awarded by the Hyderabad police department for his tremendous effort.

Isn’t this a beautiful example of a person going beyond their call of duty? What do you think? Let us know your views in the comments section below.
