Manya Singh, daughter of auto driver, crowned Miss India runner-up, inspires many

Manya Singh from the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was crowned the runner-up at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 contest recently.

And, her inspiring story of how she braved all odds to attain success has gone viral and inspired many.

Born in the city of Kushinagar, Manya revealed that she had a difficult childhood due to her impoverished background. The daughter of a rickshaw driver, she had to face many adversities early in her life, which included not have enough to eat and not having the required means to pay for her college exams. From doing odd jobs to doing all she could to save a few pennies, Manya has done it all, and emerged victorious and successful!

In an Instagram post, she shared her life story: “I’ve spent numerous nights without food and sleep. I’ve spent many afternoons walking for miles on end. My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams. Being a rickshaw driver’s daughter, I never had the opportunity to attend school as I had to start working in my teens. All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs. I yearned for books, but luck wasn’t in my favour. Eventually, my parents mortgaged whatever little jewellery my mother had to ensure that I paid my exam fees in order to earn a degree. My mother has suffered a lot to provide for me. At 14, I ran away from home. I somehow managed to complete my studies in the day, became a dishwasher in the evening and worked at a call centre at night. I’ve walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare.”

She ended the post with a wonderful message for the youth, saying “I am here today at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 stage to uplift my father, my mother, and my young brother and to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams.”

Manya’s story soon went viral with many from across the country congratulating her for achieving this remarkable feat with so much resilience and hardwork.

This truly reinforces that nothing in the world is impossible to achieve if you are committed to doing so. Do you agree?
