The love that parents have for their children is unconditional and beautiful.

And this story will reinforce this fact.

Derek Prue Sr. from Edmonton in Canada noticed that his eight-year-old son Derek Prue Jr. was very conscious about a large birthmark that he had on his torso since birth. So embarrassed was Derek Jr. about this mark that he insisted on keep on his shirt in the swimming pool to avoid the curious glances of others.

“He was always proud of his birthmark and then I saw he started to kind of cover it up,” Prue said.

And to ensure that his son does not feel awkward about his mark, Derek Sr. came up with a heartwarming plan. He decided to get a tattoo for himself to replicate his son’s birthmark!!

“I think he was maybe a little bit self conscious about it. I was wanted to get the same thing so he wouldn’t be the only one.”

So Derek Sr. decided to go to Juicy Quill Tattoo to get the tattoo done! And the amazing father endured about 30 hours and nine sessions of painful tattoo sessions to get a tattoo on his chest identical to his son’s birthmark.

“I thought it was going to be a one session kind of thing. But three hours turned into about 30 hours. So it’s been a bit of a process,” he told.

To help him cope with the pain, he had to be given numbing treatments multiple times. Also, because the size of the tattoo was so massive and its position was in such a sensitive area of the body, the pain was more severe.

“That area of the body, the ribs, the pec area, just very sensitive nerve endings,” said Tony Gibert, the tattoo artist who worked on Prue Sr.

And once the tattoo was done, Derek Sr. unveiled it to his son when he was playing with his sisters in a hotel swimming pool!

And his son’s reaction was priceless!

“I was happy and I was a little confused,” Derek told CBC’s Edmonton AM. “I didn’t know he was going to do that.”

“I think it’s amazing to be able to comfort your son like that,” Derek Sr. said. “It’s more than just your kid seeing your name, or something, you get to actually, like, really change the way he feels about himself.

“Just being able to go swimming with his dad and take off his shirt and be happy and comfortable. I’m happy I get to be part of it, in a small way I get to help with what he’s trying to do.”

Wow! Isn’t Derek a super dad? Let us know your views in the comments section below!
