Though the coronavirus has made the world see very tough times, it has also demonstrated that the world is full of love and empathy.
We have, earlier, written about how children are starting off small businesses to help the needy, how an elderly woman has created a zoo in her yard to spread cheer in her neighbourhood, and how people are doing their bit for the less priviledged in these tough times.
And here is another heartwarming story of 89-year-old Flo Osborne, who is defying age and baking pies for the needy to help them during the coronavirus pandemic.
The octogenarian Flo lives in a sheltered accommodation in Dovercourt in the United Kingdom and her story was shared by Les Nicoll on Facebook recently.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Flo has cooked hundreds of sweet and savory pies for the vulnerable and the elderly in her kitchen. What is more remarkable is that Flo makes every single pie from the scratch – right from mixing the pastry to baking the pies. All these pies are distributed among the needy as part of the hot meals service in the Harwich area of the United Kingdom.
Despite this being an arduous task, Flo is very modest about the amazing community service that she has been doing. She says that her grandmother has taught her to make pies and she has been doing so ever since.
Since Nicoll posted about Flo’s effort on Facebook, the post has gone viral and has been shared and liked thousands of times.
Flo’s son Graham said that all the attention that his mother was receiving was amazing and admitted to eating her pies since he was a child.
“I’ve been brought up on her pies. To watch her make them is unreal, she sticks in lard, marg, flour in bowls, mixes it all up, cold water, bangs it out and they’re done and they’re perfect,” he said.
