The two most-feared words in today’s times are Corona and Covid.

However, that did not stop one Indian couple from naming their twins Corona and Covid. And why those names? Because the twins were born during the lockdown announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the spread of the fatal coronavirus in India.

The twins were born to Preeti and Vinay Verma in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh on 27th March amidst the lockdown.

The couple said that the names would remind them of the hardships that they overcame to have a successful delivery atthe Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur.

Due to the nationwide lockdown whereby transport services have also been hampered, the relatives of the couple could not make it to the hospital. Also, the couple was stopped at various points by the police but were let off after they noticed the condition of the pregnant woman.

“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable.”

“Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names,” 27-year-old Preeti said to justify their unusual decision.

Needless to say that the twins did become the center of attraction post their birth due to their interesting names. The hospital released a statement saying that the newborns and the mother were doing well post the surgery.

The couple, however, did admit that they might change their decision on the names later.

We are not sure whether the children will appreciate these names after they grow older! Here is wishing Corona and Covid a very happy growing!
