Penguins take a field trip to art museum!

Most restaurants, parks, gyms, and recreation places such as museums and zoos are closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic. And this is, perhaps, the ideal time for some new and unique visitors to explore these places.

On 6th May 2020, a group of three Humboldt penguins – Bubbles, Maggie, and Berkley, aged 5, 7, and 8 respectively – from the Kansas City Zoo visited the nearby Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The famous museum in Kansas, Missouri has over 34,000 internationally renowned art pieces and artifacts from across the world.

“Taking care of wild animals at the Kansas City Zoo, we’re always looking to enrich their lives and stimulate their days,” said the zoo’s CEO, Randy Wisthoff.

“And during this shutdown period, our animals really miss having visitors come out and see them,” he added.

And, judging by the video, these visitors had a whale of a time!

The three penguins were seen viewing intently artworks by Baroque and Impressionist icons, right from Claude Monet to Caravaggio.

Julián Zugazagoitia, the director and CEO of the museum, told TIME, “I don’t know what they feel, what it says in their mind.” “They stop, and look and wonder.”

The museum and the zoo ensured that this field trip was safe for both the animals and the art pieces.

Who says it is only humans that can appreciate art?
