Stephanie Frappart: Meet the first woman to referee in men’s Champions League

French referee Stephanie Frappart became the first woman ever to referee a men’s UEFA Champions League match when she oversaw the Juventus vs Dynamo Kiev match on 2nd December in Turin.

The 36-year-old referee took charge of the match that saw Juventus win 3-0 with Federico Chiesa, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata scoring the goals.

However, Frappart is not new to creating records. In August 2019, she became the first woman to referee a major men’s European match when she took charge of the UEFA Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea. She also officiated the 2019 Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands in France. She also became the first female referee to take charge of a French Ligue 1 match when Amiens played Strasbourg in April last year.

It is women like Frappart who break the glass ceiling that inspire others to follow suit. Don’t you agree?
