One of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sachin Tendulkar from India was inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame recently. Along with him, South African fast bowler Allan Donald and Australian fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick were bestowed with the honour.

The three cricketers were inducted at a ceremony in London.

Who is Sachin Tendulkar?

Born on 24 April 1973, Sachin Tendulkar is perhaps the most acclaimed, popular, and revered cricketer ever. The records that Tendulkar has broken and created across his cricketing career will, perhaps, never be broken. Widely regarded as the greatest batsman in the history of cricket, he is the only batsman to have scored hundred centuries in international cricket. One of the most prolific batsmen ever, he also holds the record for the most number of runs in both, one-day international (ODI) and test cricket. He also was the first batsman to score a double century in the ODI format of the game and the only cricketer to complete more than 30,000 runs in international cricket.

He became the sixth Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC’s Hall of Fame. The other Indian cricketers include Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, and Rahul Dravid.

Who is Allan Donald?

One of the greatest fast bowlers from South Africa, Allan Donald has taken over 600 international wickets. He was also the first South African to take 200 ODI wickets and 300 test wickets. Post his retirement in 2002, he has been the coach of a number of teams.

He is only the third South African to be awarded this honour, the other two being Barry Richards and Graeme Pollock.

Who is Cathryn Fitzpatrick?

Australian Cathryn Fitzpatrick has been one of the best bowlers ever in women’s cricket. She holds the distinction of being the second-highest wicket-taker of all time, with 180 wickets in the ODI format and 60 in tests. Only the eighth woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Fitzpatrick has been the coach of the Australian women’s team during 2012 and 2015 in which Australia won the World Cup.

What is the ICC Hall of Fame?

According to the official website, the ICC Hall of Fame “recognises the achievements of the legends of the game from cricket’s long and illustrious history.” It was launched in 2009 as part of the centenary celebrations of the ICC.
