Aquarium Penguins take a ‘field trip’ during closure, charm netizens

With most tourist attractions being closed to public due to the coronavirus, the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago had some very interesting visitors.

A group of rockhopper penguins at the Aquarium got a chance to see what it feels like to be on the other side of the glass recently. These penguins were allowed to leave their habitat and explore the Shedd Aquarium to watch the other animals, and did they have a great time!

“Without guests in the building, caretakers are getting creative in how they provide enrichment to animals,” the aquarium told the Chicago Tribune. “Introducing new experiences, activities, foods and more to keep them active, encourage them to explore, problem-solve and express natural behaviors.”

The Shedd Aquarium also shared a video of this field trip of the penguins, which showed one penguin, Wellington, being specially interested in the fishes in the Amazon rising. And the interest was mutual – the fishes also seemed particularly interested in their unusual guest.

The video has gone viral, with over 40,000 shares and 120,000 likes. And netizens were super excited to watch the video. Many came up with very interesting comments on the video.

One thought it was “a great idea to let the natives visit one another” while another said that Wellington “looks like an overdressed tourist enjoying a day at the zoo.”

The penguins definitely brought a huge smile to our lives. Did you see the video and smile too? Let us know your reactions in the comments section below.
