The heavy metal band Metallica has a heart of gold. Read on to know why.

Recently, the band donated 250,000 euros to the construction of the first private children’s hospital in Romania. This donation came ahead of the band’s sold-out concert held in the National Arena in Bucharest on 14th August. While 200,000 euros came from the concert’s main sponsors, the band members themselves donated 50,000 euros.

The construction of the hospital began in 2018 and is expected to finish next year.

The donation was made by means of their non-profit organization ‘All within my hands’ to the Romanian non-profit organization Daruiesta Viata (Give Life), which is collecting funds to build the nation’s first paediatric oncology hospital. Founded in 2012, the local NGO is also looking to enhance the medical infrastructure of Romania, along with working on increasing the survival rate for cancer patients.

“Metallica’s donation has a special significance for our project. Their music has been inspiring millions of Romanians and, at the same time, many of them are inspired to contribute to building the first Pediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy hospital in Romania, to offer children with cancer a chance to live,” said Carmen Uscatu, the president of Daruieste Viata Association.
