16-year old wins $3 million as Fortnite World Champion

Kyle Giersdorf, a sixteen-year-old from Pennsylvania, United States, won $3 million as to become the World Champion of Fortnite, the famous computer game. This was the largest-ever payout for a single player in the history of e-sports.

Giersdorf, known as ‘Bugha’ in the online world, dominated right from the first round and finally made 59 points, beating his closest rival by a huge margin.

The tournament was held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. This is also where the famed tennis grand slam – the U.S Open is held.

The tournament saw 100 participants from over 30 countries.

Fortnite is free to download and currently has 200 million registered players across the globe. This game involves 100 players dropped into an island. From here, they have to find weapons and eliminate the others until the one person remaining wins the game.

Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, gave away a whopping $40 million in prize money throughout the tournament.
